چکیده

The paper evaluates the effect of multipath propagation on broadband terrestrial free-space optical links. At 10 Gbs the pulse duration is 0.1 ns for binary signaling and multipath propagation during fog events may affect the channel bandwidth and cause intersymbol interference in the receiver. The analysis is based on single-scattering approximation and semi-analytical solution, which is computationally less expensive in comparison with Monte-Carlo methods. Simulation results are provided for typical continental fog parameters and a typical scenario for municipal links. Key-Words: Free-space optical links, Atmospheric scattering, ISI

Quantum modeling of light absorption in graphene based photo-transistors

Graphene based optical devices are highly recommended and interested for integrated optical circuits. As a main component of an optical link, a photodetector based on graphene nano-ribbons is proposed and studied. A quantum transport model is presented for simulation of a graphene nano-ribbon (GNR) -based photo-transistor based on non-equilibrium Green’s function method. In the proposed model a...

Atmospheric Channel Effects on Terrestrial Free Space Optical Communication Links

This paper illustrates the challenges imposed by the atmospheric channel on the design of a terrestrial laser communication link. The power loss due to scattering effect is described using the Kim/Kruse scattering model while the effect and the penalty imposed by atmospheric turbulence is highlighted by considering the bit error rate (BER) of an OnOff Keying modulated link in an optical Poisson...

Nonlinear Responses and Optical Limiting Behavior of Ag Nanoparticle Suspension

In this study, the nonlinear optical properties and optical limiting performance of the silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in distilled water are investigated. The nonlinear absorption coefficient of the colloid is measured by the Z-scan technique. The optical limiting behavior of the AgNP suspension is investigated under exposure to nanosecond laser pulses at 532 nm. The results show that nonlinear ...
